Do I or my family really need therapy?

Therapy or counseling or mental health services can be beneficial for most people. Mental health struggles are common, especially with the recent COVID19 Pandemic. Mental or Emotional Health concerns can feel stigmatizing, but the truth is mental health is just as important as our physical health. When considering if counseling would be helpful for your or your family maybe think about some of these questions:

  • Are there frequent outbursts that are harming relationships?
  • Am I or my family members able to share important things with others in a healthy way?
  • Am I noticing behaviors that are hurtful to myself or others?
  • Am I or my child having a hard time functioning in school or work? or social settings?
  • Am I or my child able to cope with hard thing or changes in life?

These are just a few things to ask yourself and if you have more questions please call us, we offer a FREE 30 minute in person consult.

What is Play Based Therapy?

“Toys are children’s words and play is their language” -Garry Landreth There are multiple ways for play therapists to use play in some way to help a child express themselves or access emotions that won’t come out with just talk-therapy. At Growing Grove I make every effort to meet each child where they are at and plan course of treatment accordingly.

What are the benefits of Play Therapy?

As stated in the last question, play is the way children express themselves and learn. Play Therapy allows a child the space they need to process their lives and the emotions they have. Benefits include

  • Safe space to express emotions
  • opportunity to re-learn healthy interactions
  • acceptance of self and others
  • learning new skills in relating to others
  • development of self-efficacy

Will you go to court for me or write a letter for me?

The job of a mental health professional is to walk alongside you through your journey. Confidentiality, is the cornerstone to a therapeutic relationship, writing letters or reports for court proceedings negatively impacts the therapeutic relationship, therefore here at Growing Grove Counseling Services we do not write letters or reports for court purposes and we do not make recommendations to the court regarding divorces or parenting matters.
